ilike natural skin care is still organic

This info comes directly from Szep Elet, the distributors of ilike skin care in the U.S.~

1. What changed and what didn’t

After two decades with “ilike organic skincare” on our packaging, we now use “ilike natural skin care.” The formulas, sourcing philosophy, and standards did not drop; regulatory language around the word organic tightened (federal + California), and our reliance on wild-harvested botanicals means many ingredients cannot be certified organic in the strict paperwork sense. Rather than dilute formulas or force plantation cultivation, we chose the most transparent path: update the front label while keeping the plants and the integrity you love.

2. Why wild-harvested ≠ certified organic (legally)

“Organic” on a label is a regulated certification claim tied to documented, inspected agricultural plots and a fully auditable chain of custody. Our rosehips, nettle, birch, elderflower, and other plants are respectfully gathered from naturally regenerating habitats, not monoculture fields. Because these sites aren’t registered farms with annual inspector reports, we cannot attach the organic seal, even though they grow free from synthetic pesticides or GMO intervention.

3. Certified quality & compliance (what we do prove)

Changing one word on the front does not mean “just trust us.” We submit to multiple, independent, science-based audits that examine safety, purity, environmental stewardship, and manufacturing controls.

Our Certifications of Quality and Compliance and What they Prove~

COSMOS / BDIH Certification

  • Ingredient origin & purity criteria; restrictions on petrochemicals, silicones, parabens, GMO inputs; responsible packaging; environmental management of processing.

  • Independent verification that our ingredient palette and processing methods align with leading European natural & organic cosmetic benchmarks. Even a USDA organic seal can’t apply to wild flora.

Hungarian “ÖKO” / National Land & Organic Compliance

  • National norms governing environmentally sound harvesting, traceability of plant materials, and protection of native ecosystems.

  • Confirms our local sourcing respects land stewardship requirements in the country of origin.

GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) – High Level Compliance

  • Standardized, validated production procedures; documented batch records; sanitation; calibrated equipment; trained personnel; corrective & preventive action (CAPA) systems.

  • Ensures every jar is consistent, safe, and traceable, minimizing contamination risk and guaranteeing reproducible efficacy.

  • Bio Garancia (national bio/eco certification)

  • Audits of raw material documentation, ecological sourcing claims, and absence of prohibited substances.

  • Layered verification that environmental and purity claims are evidence-backed, not marketing fluff.

Internal & Third-Party Lab Testing

  • Identity (botanical fingerprint / HPTLC), microbiology (TAMC, yeast & mold, pathogens), heavy metals, pesticide residue panels, stability & preservative efficacy.

  • Objective data behind the promise of safety and freshness; every lot must pass spec before release.

Cruelty-Free Practice

  • No finished product or raw ingredient animal testing (aligning with prevailing EU regulation standards).

  • Aligns with ethical expectations on animal welfare.

Key Point: Where certified organic demands farm paperwork we cannot produce for wild stands, these complementary certifications and audits examine the outcomes you care about: clean inputs, ecological respect, safety, and transparency.

4. How our wild approach upholds (often exceeds) “organic” ideals

  • No synthetic pesticides by default: Natural ecosystems, not sprayed fields.

  • Biodiversity first: Ethical wildcraft guidelines (take only a fraction; allow regeneration; avoid sensitive stands).

  • Minimal processing: Cold-pressing, fermentation, gentle drying retains the plant’s actives; no harsh solvent extraction for mere yield.

  • Full traceability: Each batch is coded; documents link raw input → lab tests → finished goods record.

  • Safety validated: GMP process controls + multi-panel laboratory screening ensure what shouldn’t be there isn’t, such as microbes, contaminants, adulterants.

5. What “natural” signals for us

“Natural” is not a downgraded claim, it is the most candid descriptor for formulas built from (1) certified ingredients where feasible, and (2) wild botanicals whose very wildness prevents farm certification yet delivers the biochemical richness we prize.

6. Your access to proof

We keep supporting documents (Certificates of Analysis, GMP audit summaries, certification scope statements) on file. Curious about a batch? Ask, we’ll share what we are permitted to disclose under supplier confidentiality agreements. Transparency is a system, not a slogan.

7. Bottom line

We removed “organic” from the front panel to comply with evolving regulatory clarity not because we lowered standards. By combining responsible wildcrafting with internationally recognized certifications (COSMOS / BDIH, national ecological compliance, Bio Garancia) and stringent GMP plus lab validation, we actively embody the consumer values “organic” was meant to guarantee: purity, safety, ecological respect, and integrity.
