What is that fancy little treatment that leaves our skin so smooth and so bright….?

Dermaplaning~

What is it? What can it do?

Lightly moving a professional surgical blade (angled correctly!) over your facial skin can do some very lovely things for your complexion. Such as…

1)      Clear away the vellus hair (peach fuzz), leaving our skin smoother and brighter;

2)      Clear away the hardened, dead skin cells to leave our skin softer and more supple;

3) Help our pores  to be less prone to clogging;

4) Improve the texture of the surface of our skin;

5) Enhance the product penetration of whatever is applied after dermaplaning, increasing the benefits for our skin;

6)      Enhance the benefits of whatever facial or treatment you add dermaplaning to.

The huge benefit of dermaplaning is that it is an economical, short and sweet treatment that provides immediate benefits and pairs well with all other Rich Earth services. Ta da!

What does dermaplaning not do?

While dermaplaning efficiently clears away our vellus hair (peach fuzz), it does not clear away terminal hair. (Terminal hair is the thicker, darker, coarser hair that can show up on our chin or jawline area. This thicker, darker hair needs to be removed by the root, so  tweezing, waxing, sugaring, threading, electrolysis or laser hair removal will all work well for clearing away terminal hair.)

Dermaplaning does not hydrate or moisturize our skin all on its own. While it does remove the most hardened, dried-out surface skin cells, enabling your skin to take in moisture super efficiently after a dermaplaning treatment, if you don’t hydrate or moisturizer properly after dermaplaning, it can leave your skin dry and even sensitive.

Note of caution: I’ve noticed this a few times on clients who dermaplane at home…When skin is not adequately hydrated and moisturized, or when too much skin is removed all at once, our skin is left dry, lackluster and maybe sensitized after dermaplaning instead of smooth and soft with a glow.

Who Benefits from a dermaplaning treatment?

Most of us can benefit from a (correctly done!) dermaplaning treatment from time to time, although there are some exceptions.   (We’ll find other fabulous options if dermaplaning is not for you, though, so don’t worry!).

Dermaplaning can be especially nice for skin types that don’t tolerate other forms of exfoliation well. (Does your skin hate scrubs? Is it intolerant of exfoliating acids? Exfoliating enzymes just not work for you? Dermaplaning to the rescue!)

Let’s welcome fresh, smooth, bright, glowing, skin.
